Starfruit is one of those rare tropical fruit trees that will produce tasty fruit in shadier environments, as mine did in the very first year. The flowers are magenta, unlike the traditional lilac of other starfruit varieties, and emerge between 3-6 times per year. When grown indoors, hand-pollination and fruit set can be tricky due to the small, delicate flowers; a small artist's paintbrush works best. Indoor trees also like to go through "autumn" multiple times per year, shedding large amounts of leaves before immediately replacing them with an even more massive flush of new growth. This can be a little unsightly, but does not otherwise seem to affect the tree's health or productivity.
Got this plant March 2019 and it's now September...it's flowered all season long, had some fruit and they dropped but now has 2 large fruit on it that are staying til ripe it seems ! Great shape to the plant....highly recommend!
Wow. I got fruit already! It's only one, but still, it's not even in a really large pot. I have it in the standard 5 gal nursery pot that you usually get trees in. I'm not sure it's going to get all that big, but it's amazing that it's fruited already.
I am very impressed! There are literally 30 star fruit in various stages of growth on my tree right now. This is the second summer - the difference maker this year has been full sun and 7-9-5 fertilizer. It has a graceful, attractive shape. My "non-dwarf" version has not done as well for me. Highly recommend.
I bought this tree back in early May as I wanted a star fruit tree and never found a place that had them and did not want to pay extreme prices for what is online. Here it is early sept and it had grown a lot. Flowered and has fruit setting.
