Lars Rosengreen The leaf on this plant was beautifully variegated when I received it from Logees, but the two other leaves that it has grown since then are all green and have a different growth habit. I guess it reverted, which is kind of disappointing. Still a nice plant, but the new growth doesn't even look like S. masoniana, it looks like a different Sansevieria species.
Thank you for sharing your experience—we’re glad to hear the original leaf had such beautiful variegation, though we understand how disappointing it is to see the new growth come in green.
Variegated Whale’s Fin can sometimes produce non-variegated or differently shaped leaves, especially as it establishes new growth. Unfortunately, variegation in this variety isn’t always stable, and factors like light can influence how much patterning shows in future leaves.
If you’d like to encourage more variegation, bright, indirect light can help, though it won’t always guarantee a return to the original look. Some growers also prune back to the last variegated growth point to try to encourage variegated offsets.
