Grown for its stunning variegated foliage and brilliant single red flowers, this heritage hibiscus cultivar is making a comeback. Hibiscus ‘Cooperii’ creates a fancy showpiece in the garden with its brilliantly colored leaves in shades of burgundy red, pink, white and green. Grow in full sunlight for maximum color intensity. If grown in the shade or the lower light level in winter the foliage turns green but it will return to vibrant colors once it’s given full sunlight. Hibiscus ‘Cooperii’ makes a fancy standard or grow it where a vibrant color statement is needed.

Tips for Success:
• Sun, sun and more sun.• They are warm-growing plants and suffer if subjected to cool temperatures over extended periods. As a rule, keep temperatures above 65°F, especially in the winter.• Water on visual soil dryness or plant wilt. Severe wilt can hurt them. Careful watering is critical during the winter or anytime when the light level is low and temperatures are cool.• Under high light and warm temperatures they are heavy feeders and need a balanced fertilizer applied on a regular basis. A fertilizer like Dyna Gro “Grow” 7-9-5 will help induce blooms.• Flowering varies widely between varieties. Full sun, warm temperatures, a balanced fertilizer and careful attention to watering will produce the best results for your hibiscus.

Rachel A I was excited for this one, so i was a little bummed her tops were cut on every branch. But other than that shes beautiful. Also the box was destroyed but she wasnt hurt because they packed her so well.

Gary C. The plant arrived looking a bit disappointing, likely because of shipping. The plant was healthy and full enough, but the leaves were dull. However, I read that this variety turns greener and loses the read if not in sun—and after just a few days planted in the sun, the red has begun to return, and the plant is looking fine!
